Minnie L. Hingleton

Minnie L. Hingleton joined her parents and older sister when her mother gave birth to her on June 23, 1939 in Columbia, South Carolina. The teachers in Richland County public schools enjoyed her presence from first grade until she graduated high school. After graduation from C. A. Johnson High School, she entered the 'world of work'. She worked as a Quality Control Manager with the Shakespeare Company and retired after 35 years of employment.

Mrs. Hingleton is married to Deacon Frank Hingleton. During their 62 years of marriage, they made a family of eight children, several grandchildren and a few great-grands. She taught her family early on that 'cleanliness is next to godliness' by keeping a very clean house that they also learned to clean and keep clean. Her house cleaning skills began when she too was a child; she always kept her 'playhouse' clean. Cooking didn't catch on with the same enthusiasm.

Saint John Baptist Church is where Mrs. Hingleton's Christian life began. She attended church with her grandmother who sang with the Jubilee Choir. She gave her life to Christ at the age of 12 while attending Vacation Bible School; Rev. Dr. Roscoe C. Wilson baptized her. During Mrs. Hingleton's developing years, she attended Sunday School, Prayer Meetings, Baptist Training Union (BTU), and was a member of the Junior Missionary Society.

Mrs. Hingleton holds membership in the Adult Sunday School, Naomi Missionary Circle and the Deacon Brown/Bailey/ Green and Hingleton Family Ministry Group at St. John Baptist Church. She is a Deaconess and serves as a Volunteer Coordinator for the Food Pantry. She faithfully attends Mid-Week Bible Study.

When traveling was a little less physically challenging and was the 'norm', Mrs. Hingleton got excited about planning to attend Family Reunions or just getting out of town. She did not; however, share the same excitement as the children grew older and began to leave home. Adjusting to an 'empty nest' was no fun at all for Mrs. Hingleton. After all, she had never been in her home alone. Never! This also speaks to how much she loves family and enjoys having them around.

Mrs. Hingleton thanks Pastor Graham and the Saint John family for the love, joy and peace she experiences when entering the sanctuary on Sundays. She says, "To God be the Glory for all He's done for me".
