Annie Lloyd Camacho

Annie Lloyd Camacho was born Annie Ruth Williams to Henry Boyce and Rosa Belt Gray-Williams on a cold Saturday in February 1933 in Pelion, South Carolina. As a young child, Annie grew up in the farmland of Pelion where she played, learned and worked as a farmers' child. Annie attended a one-room schoolhouse for students grades one through seventh. The school year extended from October through May.

At the age of twelve, Annie's parents enrolled her at Schofield High School in Aiken, South Carolina. There were few, if any, high schools in her county for Blacks.

After attending Allen University, for two years, Annie married Luther Lloyd and moved to New York. In this union, they were blessed with four children--Maxine, Zackary, Luther, and Pamela Lloyd.

While working at Health and Hospital Cooperation (Jacobi Hospital), Annie continued her education at Bronx Community College and earned a degree as a Registered Nurse (R.N.). She then attended Lehman College and earned a bachelor's degree in Nursing. While attending Lehman College, Annie also received a Masters of Nursing in Science. Later, Annie received another master's degree in Administration and Supervision from Fordham University.

Annie ended her work career as an educator for the New York Board of Education. Along the way, she received several awards in special areas and concentrations, including her work with students of Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) in New York City-state and nationally.

Annie attended Trinity Baptist Church in Bronx, New York for over forty years and served in many ministries.

Luther Lloyd dies in 1989. Later, she met Cecelio Camacho in December 1995. Due to changes and death in the family, Annie returned to Columbia in March 1997 and joined Saint John Baptist Church March 1998. Upon becoming a member of Saint John Baptist Church, Annie is and has been involved in several ministries. Cecelio Camacho, who was Catholic, joined Saint John and was baptized in 2002.

My Christian life has been a journey; baptized at Hall Hill Baptist Church, tarried at Trinity Baptist Church, and now as a Four Score Member at Saint John Baptist Church. As I revisit my life, I could never have envisioned the blessings God has bestowed upon me.
